Using Kinship in Revit

Kinship has an add-in to Revit which allows you to both search for content anywhere in the Kinship system and upload content to the library, without leaving Revit.

The Kinship add-in

Kinship runs as an add-in to Revit and can be accessed from the Add-In tab. Clicking on this will show the Kinship Panel.

'Kinship Panel' button

  • If the model is being tracked by Kinship and there have been no changes in the local model since the last time it was synchronised you will see the dialog below.Sync status is up to date
  • If the model is being tracked by Kinship and there are changes which have not yet been synchronized to Kinship you will see the dialog below. It will tell you how many changes are outstanding and provide a link to initiate the sync. If you choose not to sync immediately Kinship will complete the sync next time your computer is idle.Sync status is not up to date
  • If the model has not yet been added to Kinship you will see the dialog below with the following options:
    • Add to Kinship - this will start the process of extracting the contents and loading it into Kinship.
    • Add to Kinship as private model - as above this will add the model to Kinship but as a private model. When a model is registered as private it will always be assigned to a new project. See Private projects for more detail.
    • Do not add - the model will not be added to Kinship. If you would like to add at a later time, clicking on the Model Sync Status will bring up these options.

  • Your administrator has the ability to specify that certain files are not registered with Kinship. If this is the case you will see the dialog below. Please consult your administrator if you believe that this is not correct.Model not allowed in Kinship
