Downloading Content

Once a family has been found it can be immediately downloaded into your Revit model or the Family Editor.

The action taken when the family is downloaded will depend on what is the currently active view in Revit.

  • A project file:

    • The family will become the currently selected family and put on the end of your cursor for immediate placement into the model.
    • If the family already exists in the model there will be a prompt as to whether to overwrite the existing version but keep its parameter values or overwrite the parameter values as well or to cancel.Add in dialog to choose overwrite
  • The Family Editor or no open window:

    • The family will be downloaded to an .rfa file and opened in the Family Editor.
    • By default Kinship will store the .rfa file in the user’s Documents folder but the user also has the option to specify another location.Add-in dialog family download location
    • The default folder is the same for all versions of Revit so if the same family is downloaded in different versions of Revit the later download will have the same name and location as the previous one.
    • If the family file already exists in the chosen location the user will be given the choice to save the family in a new location or overwrite the existing version.Add-in dialog family download location2
