Load families in Revit using the Kinship add-in or download them from the website.
From the Add-in
- To find a family in the library from the add-in see Searching Kinship from Revit.
- Select the family from the add-in search results to load it.
- The action taken when the family is loaded will depend on the currently active window in Revit:
- If your active window is a model, then the family will be loaded into model and become the currently selected family so that you can immediately place it.
- If your active window is the family editor or you have nothing open, then the family will be saved to your local drive and then opened in the family editor.
- By default, Kinship will save the family in your Documents folder (“Copy and open family”). You can also choose to save the family in another location (“Copy it to another folder”).
- Note: The default save folder is the same for all versions of Revit. So if the same family is opened in different versions of Revit, you will need to choose either a different save location for each version or to overwrite the existing version.
From the Website
You can download families from the website as .rfa files (components, annotations and details) or .rvt files (system families, groups, views and sheets):
- Select the families you would like to download from the library content list. See Viewing Content for details on sorting, filtering and selecting library families.
- Click on the download icon above the list.
- All the selected families will be downloaded in a single zip file called <Kinship site name> main library Families.zip and placed in the download directory for your browser.
- For each family there will be two files, the .rfa or .rvt and the .png for the family thumbnail in Kinship.
