A model joins Kinship the first time it does a Synchronize with Central.
Registering a model with Kinship
Note: Kinship does not host the central file itself. This remains on its current location. Kinship gathers data from the model that let’s you view and manage it from the website.
For a model to be added to Kinship it must be workshared. Kinship will ask a user if they want to add a model to Kinship when:
- A workshared model is saved as a central file that is not already registered with Kinship
- A user does a Synchronize with Central to a central file that Kinship is not aware of.
The second case may happen because the central file was created by a user without Kinship installed or the user who created the file chose not to add the model do kinship
You will be asked whether to:
- Add to Kinship this will add the model to Kinship as a public model.
- Add to Kinship as a private model this will add the model as a private model
- Do not add the model will not be added to Kinship. You can add a model later by using clicking on the Model Sync Status in the Kinship ribbon menu. Once you have selected this, Kinship will not ask again.
- Close the Close button is the same as the Do not add
There are a number of factor that will affect the behaviour Kinship when adding a model:
- Files on local drives (such as C:\) by default are excluded as they are assumed to be local and therefore not shared. You can override this by using the Model Sync Status in the Kinship ribbon.
- Your administrator can define rules, such as automatically adding a model or never adding a model, based on the central file location. See the Model Sync Rules for more details.
- Note: If you have Disable family and model extraction checked then you will not be asked whether to add the model.
A model can always be added later to Kinship if you choose not to add it when it was initially saved:
- Select the Add-Ins in Revit
- From the Kinship panel select Model Sync Status. This will bring up the initial dialog as shown above.
